M. Shaun Machen, MD
Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery
Dr. M. Shaun Machen is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with sub-specialty fellowship training in Pediatric Orthopaedics and sub-specialty board certification in Sports Medicine. He enjoys caring for all pediatric orthopaedic conditions and especially enjoys pediatric and young adult Sports Medicine and Trauma.
He completed an Orthopaedic Residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and also completed an additional research year at Johns Hopkins. Upon graduation, he spent a year doing fellowship training in Pediatric Orthopaedics at the University of Utah - rotating at both Shriners Hospital and Primary Children's Hospital.
He spent the next 10 years at William Beaumont Army Center where he got a tremendous experience in Sports Medicine and Trauma. He deployed to Iraq, in 2004, and ultimately became the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics. He retired from the Army as a Colonel after 24 years of experience.
He has 12 years of experience training medical students and orthopaedic residents. He has now joined the University of Utah as an Associate Professor.
